In an effort to crack down on child trafficking, South Africa has very strict policies in place for minors flying in and out of the country. A minor is anyone under the age of 18, regardless of if their 18th birthday happens while they are in South Africa.
Because of this, the following list is required for ALL MINORS traveling on mission trips to South Africa, whether they are accommodated by a parent or not:
- A valid passport
- An original or certified/notarized copy of birth certificate showing both parents' names
- A notarized Minor Consent Form
- A notarized copy of each parent's ID
- A letter of acknowledgement of the minor and the personal information of our staff member who is picking up the team at the airport (will be provided to you by our US staff)
The official list of requirements can be confirmed on the South African Department of Home Affairs website.
NOTE: There are typically more difficulties with minors traveling through London Heathrow. We recommend you avoid flying British Airways.
